I have been asked what makes one a mother? I believe that God endowed every woman with the gift of motherhood. It is our God given gift. This is because every woman has that built-in mechanism that God placed in women that comes alive automatically whenever needed.

In the book of Genesis, the bible narrates how God made the first woman when He saw that Adam needed a “helper,” someone who can help nurture Adam. This nurturing nature is one of the qualities and duties of a mother. Mothers take care of their families without reservation to the point of neglecting or forgoing their personal desires. A selfless act that only means love. Their utmost desire is to make their families happy and content. They do this by praying for their families, making sure meals are made and served at the right time, cleaning up after everybody, helping with school work, comforting and taking care of their sick ones, staying up at night to bring comfort during nightmares. They are basically the house doctor, maid, chef, teacher, spiritual guide, and scheduler making sure all schoolwork; appointments and activities are kept or done on time. They are good listeners making them the counselor for teens and the unpaid judge and jury during sibling rivalries. They are dependable and reassuring with soothing hugs and kisses. Mothers can be creative and fun to make the family happy. Above all they are the unpaid and overworked managers of their families and homes. The following define the letters in the word “mother”:

M=Memory makers

O=Outstanding

T=Totally committed to her responsibilities

H=Helper from God to nurture us all

E=Ever loving

R=Relentlessly resourceful

To all the mothers (women) all over the world, I declare the word of God in Proverbs 10 vs. 28 to you; “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” May you continue to be blessed!
